Basic methods to perform the automatic audit

There are four basic methods that can be used to perform the automatic audit:

1. Add a line to the System Login Script or user profile -
This is the recommend method. With this method, every time a user logs on the network, the audit utilities run automatically. Typically you will set the audit interval to 30 days. On login, NetKeeper checks the audit database and skips the audit unless, in this example, 30 days have elapsed since the last audit.

2. Add a user named: INVENTORY and ask the network users to login as user 'INVENTORY' at specific intervals.
This method requires you to modify the login script (or profile) for the user INVENTORY, not the System Login Script. This method is easy to implement but has the disadvantage that you can not capture the user's real login name.

3. Run the audit utilities from a menu selection from your Network's menu.
Method 3 is useful if you only occasionally run the audit. You can set up a menu selection such as "Annual Inventory" and ask the network users to periodically run this selection.

4. Run the audit utilities from the command line.
Method 4 can only be run if you are at the workstation being audited. You simply run the audit from the DOS prompt by typing the audit utility's name.

Note: You can also run the audit from collection diskettes.
