Data integrity notes on multiuser systems - Server based shared files
Document ID : 000-000287 Created: 4/22/1999 Last changed on: 4/06/2001
The NetKeeper file system is very solid and should perform without problems for long periods of time.
Check the network setup if you experience repeated file damage or corruption and the CFIL or the CSRT correct the problem.
Often the NetKeeper programs are the first fully multi-user programs that are installed on a network. Spreadsheets and word processors are usually not multi-user systems since only one user at a time can use the data files unless a copy is made of the data file.
Some factors to check:
At workstations:
Turn OFF all write caches (or delayed caches)
Check that your W95 workstations run the upgraded redirector software.
Check that you run as few network protocols as possible
Check that your network drivers are up-to-date.
Note: Later versions of Windows are pre-optimized for Client server file sharing, file server versions of NetKeeper software (and any other manufacturer) require re-director type file sharing. Upgrade to SQL versions of NetKeeper software to avoid having to reconfigure your MS Windows(R) workstations and servers.
At servers
Turn OFF opportunistic locking
Note: This note does not apply to client/server versions of NetKeeper Software
