Creating a LAN audit data collection diskette for stand-alone PCs using 16 bit utilities
Document ID : 000-000288 Created: 4/22/1999 Last changed on: 4/22/1999

NETKEEPER EXPRESS can also collect data from computers that are not linked to your network.

In order to do this, you have to create a data collection diskette. You will run the audit from the diskette and use the UPDATE FROM SURVEY function to update your main database.

The data collection diskettes include the audit programs and the audit files required by NETKEEPER EXPRESS.

Use the 32 bit collection utility unless you need to audit old computers. The 16 bit and the 32 bit audit utilities can write to the same database. Use the login scripts to select the correct utility if you need to run both types of utilities.

CREATING A MASTER HARDWARE DATA COLLECTION DISKETTE FOR 16 BIT SYSTEMS

To create a master data collection, follow these steps:

Format a new diskette.

Copy audit programs HARDADT.EXE and CFGADT.EXE from your working NetKeeper directory.
These are the hardware audit and the configuration audit programs, respectively.

Make the diskette the default drive and run the STARTNK program. The STARTNK program is used during the installation of NETKEEPER EXPRESS.

Select Create All Files., This will create an empty set of all NetKeeper files on your new diskette.

To conserve diskette space you may remove the following files on your master collection diskette:

category.*
commsu.*
info.*
maint.*
opersys.*
qrysto.*
replist.*
sadtres.*
sftref.*
software.*
syslog.*
users.*
vendors.*

From your working NetKeeper directory copy the following files :

system.dat
cfscript.ini
swscript.ini

You now have a master Hardware Audit collection diskette. Your NETKEEPER EXPRESS software license allows you to make ONE copy (at any one time) of your master Hardware Audit collection diskette. If you require more than one Hardware Collection diskette, you must purchase additional NETKEEPER EXPRESS Licenses.
