Document ID : 000-000296 Created: 4/29/1999 Last changed on: 4/29/1999
You can customize almost any screen in NetKeeper Express. You can rename fields, change their size or format, move them or hide them. You can even change the help message and tool tip.
You can customize lists and forms. The main menu screen is not customizable.
Customizing a screen
1- Select UTILITIES|ADMIN LOGIN and login as administrator
2- Select Setup Data from the Utilities menu
3- Verify that the "Prevent user screen changes" option is not checked.
4- Open the screen you want to customize.
5- Place the cursor and click on the field you want to modify.
6- Press Ctrl+S (Press and hold the control key and press the S key) to display the Customize Window Work Sheet
7- Change one or more of the field attributes (only valid attributes are enabled)
8- Click OK to save the changes.
Customizing a field that you can't access
Fields such as prompts, tab labels or some buttons cannot be selected with the mouse. To modify a field that you can't select, you need to select a nearby field and use the PREV and NEXT buttons to move to the field. The Customize Window Work Sheet displays the control type (button, tab, entry field, etc.) on the upper left hand corner.
Undoing changes
To undo changes made to one field:
1- Select the field as above
2- Press Ctrl+S (Press and hold the control key and press the S key) to display the Customize Window Work Sheet
3- From the Screen Builder menu select FIELD DEFAULTS
To undo changes made to a screen
1- Select any field on the screen
2- Press Ctrl+S (Press and hold the control key and press the S key) to display the Customize Window Work Sheet
3- From the Screen Builder menu select SCREEN DEFAULTS
Troubleshooting
If a screen does not work properly or "looks funny", you may need to redo or fix your changes to the screen. To check how the screen looks without your changes:
1- Login as administrator
2- Select Setup Data from the Utilities menu
3- Check the "Prevent user screen changes" option
4- Click OK to close and save the Set Up Data screen
5- Open the screen.
Note: Don't forget to uncheck the "Prevent user screen changes" option to re-enable your changes.
Window caption change does not display.
Many screens generate the window caption from data in your database. Your changes will be overwritten by the program and will not display as expected. Only the last change will display if you accidentally change the screen caption more than one Customize Window Work Sheet form.
Screen will not display or won't work properly.
It is possible to modify a screen to such an extent that the screen will no longer work. To correct this situation you need to reset the screen to its original defaults and start again.
