How to release a held record in a Clarion (DAT) file
Document ID : 000-000300 Created: 5/01/1999 Last changed on: 5/01/1999

NetKeeper only locks records briefly (a few milliseconds only) during update operations. A record can remain locked (held) if the update operation is interrupted by a hardware fault such as a server crash or network outage.
Locked records can be viewed but not updated. Locked records will not affect reports.

If NetKeeper reports that "the xxxx file is not available" when you need to insert or update one or more data records, then it is likely that there is one or more records held.

To release a held record:

*-You need exclusive access to the file (no other uses during the recovery)
*-Open a command box (DOS box)
*-Navigate to the directory where NetKeeper is installed
*-Type:
CSCN (and press ENTER)
to start the Clarion Scanner Utility
*-Enter the name of the file (table), for example NKSYSTEM
Note: An "Drive #w@ not available" (or similar error message) indicates that the file is in use elsewhere.
*-Scroll to find the record that must be released
*-The status indicator (at the bottom of the screen) will display HELD if the record is held or ACTIVE if the record is available
*-Press CTRL+R to release the record

Note:
Running the CFIL or the CSRT utilities on the file will release all held records in the file.

Note:
The file may also be locked by the operating system after a system crash, this is not a NetKeeper fault but an operating system fault. Use the server's console to release any locks on the file. Files that are locked by the operating system cannot be opened by any other process.
