Creating a "wild card" file entry for software recognition.
Document ID : 000-000315 Created: 5/24/1999 Last changed on: 5/24/1999

A "wild card" entry for software recognition will identify all versions of the same file. For example, create an entry to identify all versions of CONFIG.SYS and identify the file as a configuration file.

Steps to create a "wild card" entry:

*- Start NetKeeper Express
*- Select SOFTWARE from the top menu
*- Select REFERENCE SOFTWARE to display the Software Reference Data list
*- Click INSERT to add a new entry
*- Fill in the data in the "general" tab
*- Click "FILE AND LICENSE INFORMATION" tab
*- Enter the file's executable name (example: CONFIG.SYS), leave file date/time and size blank.
*- Set MASTER to "y" if you want to see the file in the summary listings.
*- Click OK to save the data
*- Do the Software Analysis function to use the new reference entry.

Note: You can only create a "wild card" entry in the Reference Software list. the Approved Software list must contain exact matches.

Note: "Wild card" entries can include size or date or time information. The program will then match the entry only if the non blank fields match.

Note: You can have more than one entry (or wild card) per file. The program will always try to find the best match.
