Using the TPSFIX.EXE file repair / restore utility
Document ID : 000-000387 Created: 9/15/1999 Last changed on: 4/03/2002
The TPSFIX.EXE file is used to repair ".TPS" data files in the NetKeeper system.
To use the utility:
*- The utility requires exclusive file access, no other simultaneous users are allowed.
*- Backup your data and program files. THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT
*- Make a copy of the damaged data file to a temporary directory as a second backup.
*- Run the TPSFIX.EXE program to start the utility
*- Select the source (input) file (the damaged file)
*- Clear (delete) the Destination (result) file name. The utility will overwrite the existing data file and will create a backup (yet another) of the file. The utility will create a different file name if you don't clear the Destination file name. You will have to manually rename the destination (repaired - hopefully) file.
* Click NEXT
* Select an example file name is available (check the tpe subdirectory). The example file has the same name as the source file but with a "TPE" extension. Using the example file improves the probability of recovering the file.
*- Check the BUILD KEYS check box
*- Uncheck the USE HEADER check box
*- Uncheck the USE OEM FLAG check box
*- No locale file is required (this is a language and settings translation file)
*- Click START to run the utility.
Note: The Utility cannot recover data that is not there! Usually the file is missing data because of a server crash (which may have happened a week or two ago) or because of faulty PC hardware (network or network card).
The Windows 95 redirector in some versions can also truncate shared data file. Check or update the Win 95 redirector, see Article ID: Q174371 in the Microsoft Knowledgebase.
