Check the path to your executable
Document ID : 000-000397 Created: 9/30/1999 Last changed on: 9/30/1999
If you can't open a program or get "can't find a file" or "can't open a file" error messages, chances are that the program's shortcut or the program's ini file has the wrong path to the program or the data files.
To find out the correct path to a file:
USE THE WINDOWS WIZARD TO CREATE A SHORTCUT TO THE PROGRAM
*- Right Mouse Click on an empty space of your desktop.
*- Select NEW
*- Select SHORTCUT
*- Click the BROWSE button and find the program you want to start
Examples: NKHDCAP.EXE for NetKeeper Help Desk Captain
NKWEXP.EXE for NetKeeper Express
HDPROW.EXE for NetKeeper Help Desk Pro
*- Select the executable file
*- Click Next
*- Enter a name for the shortcut
*- Click Finish
Now right mouse click on the new shortcut
*- Select Properties
*- Select the Shortcut Tab
The full path to your program is displayed in the TARGET field
The path where you program is located is displayed in the START IN field
Examples:
Target : n:\nk\captain\nkhdcap.exe
Start In : n:\nk\captain
Notes:
*- If you set a "Startup Path" in your program's setup, you need to make sure that all workstations use the same mapping.
*- Set your mappings in the user's profile or login script using the NET USE (Microsoft) or MAP (Novell) commands. Setting your mappings in the user's profile or login script will insure consistency across stations.
*- Use an existing mapping if possible, especially if the drive mapping is automatic (in the user's profile or login script). Then just include the full path (see above) to the new program.
