Steps to enable end-user polling
Document ID : 000-000578 Created:10/26/2000 Last changed on:10/26/2000

Start the Netkeeper Express End User Poll program. (NKPOLL.EXE)

Select DEFINE FIELDS from the top menu

 Select SCREEN FIELDS

Click INSERT to add a new field to the field list.

The sequence number determines the order of the fields to be queried. You can have more than one field with the same sequence number but you may end up with unexpected results.

Select the target field. The target field is the target in the equipment table where the data will be recorded. When you select the target field, the program will fill in several other fields with defaults. You can override the defaults.

Click OK to save the field definition.

Click Insert to add another field until you have added all the fields you need to poll.

Click CLOSE to exit the fields selected list.

 Select USER INSTRUCTIONS

Enter the start date for polling. This system will not poll users before this date.

Enter the screen title, this title will appear on the users screen.

Use the text box to enter short instructions for the end-user.

Check the ENABLE POLL check box once you're ready to start pulling end-users. The system will not poll users until this check box is checked.

To run the polling request again:
The end-user program queries the users during the automatic LAN inventory. Once the query is successful, the end-user will not be queried again for the same information unless you reset the Start Date of the user instruction screen.

The automatic audit program will re-run the end user query if the Start Date defined in the USER INSTRUCTION screen is later than the date when the poll was last run for the PC.

Steps to re-run the poll (end-user query):

Start the Netkeeper Express End User Poll program. (NKPOLL.EXE)

Select DEFINE FIELDS from the top menu

 Select USER INSTRUCTIONS

Reset the start date for polling to a date later. This system will not poll users before this date but will re-run the poll if the end-user query was run previously before the Start Date.

Enter the screen title, this title will appear on the users screen.

Use the text box to enter short instructions for the end-user.

Check the ENABLE POLL check box once you're ready to start pulling end-users. The system will not poll users until this check box is checked.

Note: Use the "[FP" 32 bit audit command line option (see command line options) to force the display of the polling screen during the audit. The [FP option will force the display of the polling screen even if the user has been polled before.
