General upgrading instructions for NetKeeper software
Document ID : 000-000934 Created: 1/11/2005 Last changed on: 1/11/2005

To upgrade NetKeeper software you need to upgrade both the program files and the database.

BACKUP YOUR DATA AND PROGRAM FILES BEFORE UPGRADING. You never have enough backups.

*To upgrade the program files:
Run the setup.exe file. Install the new files in the same folders as your existing NetKeeper program. Remember to install each NetKeeper application in a different folder, this is very important to maintain NetKeeper's very convenient "thin client" profile.
Delete all .exe and .dll files in your NetKeeper program folder before upgrading. This will insure a consistent set of files.

*To upgrade the database (upgrading from v7.52 to v8.10) in this example):
Database scripts must be run when upgrading from 7.52 to 8.10. The scripts will update the database.

The scripts are run using Query Analyzer (part of MS SQL Server). You need to run the following scripts:
nk752t80.sql <== updates the database to version 8.00
nk800t81.sql <== updates the 8.00 database to version 8.10

Set the database to single user when running scripts. This will insure that the database is not modified while you upgrade.

From the "readme file"
UPGRADING:
1- Backup your data and programs.
2- Record the time and date stamp from the nkahdcap.exe
3- Delete all exe and dll files from your NetKeeper program directory.
This step will insure that there are no "left over" programs from a
previous version.
4- Run the installation file and install the new executables and dll files
over the existing NetKeeper directory.
5- Run one or more upgrade sql scripts to upgrade the database layout.
Find the version of your software, if the time stamp on the nkahdcap.exe
file is 7:05, you are running version 7.05 of NetKeeper (you can also
see the version in the HELP | ABOUT screen when running the program).
The script nk705t06.sql upgrades the database layout from version 7.05
to v7.06 . The script nk706t07.sql upgrades the database layout from
version 7.06 to version 7.07 and so on.

NOTE: If a NetKeeper program displays "Error 47, invalid record or table declaration"
the database layout version does not match the program version.
